North Rhine-Westphalia relies on e-trucks: The future of logistics!

The “E-Trucks.nrw” campaign today launched

North Rhine-Westphalia, which is devoted to the promotion of battery-electric trucks in freight transport. The initiative aims to encourage companies to switch their vehicle fleets to electrical drives and to offer solutions for climate -friendly logistics. Minister of Economics and Climate Protection Mona Neubaur took a look at the new strategy, while she received five new electrical trucks from Transgourmet Germany in Düsseldorf.

Transgourmet took steps early and switched its fleet to electrical drives. Minister Neubaur emphasized how important electrical trucks are for the climate-neutral future of the logistics sector in North Rhine-Westphalia. 227 new battery -electrical trucks, which are still used this year, are to be supported in the upcoming call for funding in autumn 2024.

climate goals and transformation of heavy goods traffic

The "E-Trucks.nrw" campaign is supported by the national company NRW.ENERGY4CLIMATE. Christian Mildenberger, Managing Director of NRW.ENERGY4CLIMATE, emphasized the importance of the necessary transformation of heavy goods traffic to achieve the climate goals. The number of heavy e-trucks over 12 tons in North Rhine-Westphalia will become more than triple in the next few years.

A central element of the campaign is the provision of information and support for practical questions such as suitable vehicles, the amortization of the costs and the construction of the required charging infrastructure. The new central website as well as a comprehensive range of workshops and seminars should make it easier to start the electrical goods transport.

market conditions and alternatives

The transport and logistics sector in North Rhine-Westphalia comprises 24,000 companies, employs 364,000 people and generates annual sales of 68 billion euros. Despite the enormous economic dimension, only a small proportion of vehicles - only 1.3 percent - is part of severe road freight transport. However, these vehicles are responsible for around 21.3 percent of emissions in the traffic sector.

A switch to battery -electric trucks usually proves to be economically useful for companies. The online tool "My eroads" supports the total costs. In addition to battery -electric trucks, there are also emission -free alternatives such as hydrogen -powered vehicles. This technology develops dynamically and offers advantageous properties of how high energy density and short refueling times, which is particularly important for long -distance traffic. However, the challenges in this direction include the petrol station infrastructure and the availability of vehicles.

For the decarbonization of existing fleets, alternative fuels such as HVO 100, biogas or biodiesel can also be considered. The amortization of the acquisition and operating costs must be checked in each individual case. Forecasts indicate that battery -electric vehicles will dominate the market in heavy goods traffic in the future.

The hopefully successful implementation could train and inspire the entire industry to take a courageous step towards sustainability.

In summary, it can be said that "e-trucks.nrw" represents an ambitious campaign that will initiate a transformation in transportation. Support in practice, such as through the online tool, will play a crucial role in helping companies to do the change and reduce their emissions sustainably.

For further information on the campaign and the associated offers, a comprehensive website has been set up, which serves as a central resource for interested companies. Events and workshops are also part of the offer to promote knowledge and skills related to electrical goods transportation.
