Process for wedding blockade on A3: fourth start of the judiciary!

On January 31, 2025, the process for the so -called “mother of all wedding corsos” began in Düsseldorf, almost six years after a spectacular incident that had transformed the A3 at Ratingen into a chaos. The process should clarify the legal examination of the accused that are related to the blockade of the highway, but it was hired today because the duration of the procedure was considered too long and the consequences of the act were estimated.

The public prosecutor's office in Düsseldorf had accused the six defendants aged 31 to 42 years together. A 31-year-old German-Poles was now on the road without a driver's license. In the incident that occurred on March 22, 2019, the wedding party blocked with a number of vehicles, including sports cars such as a Ford Mustang, two Porsches and an Audi R8, the entire motorway and the side stripes.

Details on the motorway blockade

The blockade included the transverse position of a Mercedes on the road and the adventurous behavior of the Ford Mustang, which left a clear brake track ("donut"). Civil police officers documented the scenery using video recordings, which later served as evidence. These circumstances led to a public debate about the responsibility and the legal consequences of wedding companies that in the past noticed through similar actions

After multiple delays and dates, including a change of defenders, the illness of a judge and the non -show by accused and witnesses, the procedure has now been discontinued. The judges decided that the accused have to pay a money requirement of 1,200 euros for five men and 2,000 euros for a man at children's aid facilities.

The reactions and consequences

The defendants had admitted their participation in the incident and expressed remorse. The judge found that the traffic had already slowed during the blockade and that no significant disorders were caused. This assessment could be surprising for many road users who had learned first -hand how immediately they were affected by the incident.

Another aspect of the procedure concerned one of the accused who was charged with violation of the Weapons Act because he handled with a pistol during the blockade and shot into the air. This additional information gives the already explosive case another dimension that the police and the judiciary could support in their argument, why they took the blockade seriously and finally initiated the legal step.

Overall, the process of the "mother of all wedding corsos" was a remarkable part of legal history in North Rhine-Westphalia, the long-term consequences of which may not be underestimated in the future. The incident and the legal disputes afterwards have sharpened the awareness of the traffic regulations and security at wedding companies, so that the authorities now draw more attention to such events.
