Duisburg on the way to the bicycle metropolis - Greens and ADFC raise the alarm!
On April 4, 2025, there was an important meeting between the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) Duisburg and members of the Bicycle AG of the Green Duisburg. Together they gathered in the Greens district office in order to discuss the future design of a more bike -friendly Duisburg. The aim was to discuss a possible cooperation between the two organizations and to sketch concrete steps to improve the cycling infrastructure in the city. The ADFC expressed clear expectations of the Greens, in particular with regard to significant positioning for cycling in urban bodies and in public relations. These claims were supported by the Greens with the common conviction that a more bicycle -friendly cityscape in Duisburg is necessary.
In the conversations, there was agreement on the vision of developing Duisburg into a city in the future that promotes cycling and makes it more secure. The exchange was rated as productive, and another meeting before the summer holidays is already being planned. In addition to the Greens, both sides also strive for talks with representatives of the SPD, CDU and the left to achieve broad support for their project. This cooperation is particularly important in order to support well -founded political decisions and to sensitize the public to the numerous advantages of improved bicycle traffic.

In the nationwide rating, however, there are also differences between the cities. Bremen was awarded a grade of 3.6 in the cities category with over 500,000 inhabitants, followed by Frankfurt am Main and Hanover. With a grade, Münster is 3.0 freestyle in the cities over 200,000 inhabitants. Current cities like Cologne and Bonn have improved their values and show that there are also progress in lesser-rated municipalities. In contrast, Lüdenscheid stands out with the worst rating of 5.15 and has acute traffic problems.
Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing supports the expansion of the cycling infrastructure and appeals to the municipalities to use appropriate funding offers. It remains to be seen whether Duisburg can also benefit from this political support in order to achieve the goals formulated in the meeting. A stronger networking with other parties and a common commitment to cyclists could be the key to a more bike -friendly Duisburg.
