Heartless cruelty to animals: rabbits exposed in cold on the Rhine!

After the holidays, three rabbits were suspended in Duisburg-Rheinhausen under tragic circumstances. On December 29, 2024, passers -by discovered the animals on the banks of the Rhine, which were crashed into a plastic box that was too small. The cold in freezing temperatures was a serious threat to their survival. At that time, the night temperatures in Duisburg were as deep as -3 degrees Celsius, while only about 3 degrees Celsius were reached during the day.

The rabbits were immediately accepted by the Duisburg animal shelter to save them from a possible cold death. The shelter suspects that the animals were purchased as a Christmas present and then suspended by their new owners. This is not the first time that the Duisburg animal shelter is confronted with such an incident: in 2022 most rabbits were specifically exposed to their owners.

appeal to the public

The Duisburg animal shelter reported on the rescue of the rabbits and published a photo on Facebook on New Year's Day. In the article, the facility urgently appeals to the public not to complain about animals and urgently seek help if they are overwhelmed. According to those responsible, rabbits are the most frequently exposed animals, and one now hopes to quickly find new, loving and responsible owners for the saved animals.

The history of the three rabbits once again shows the importance of the responsible handling of pets and the need to stand up for the animals that are dependent on humans.
