In North Rhine-Westphalia, the "Craft in the Pick-up" initiative plays a decisive role in the professional qualification of detainees. According to Handwerksblatt , around 14,000 people are detained in 36 prison system in the federal state. The JVA Geldern is a special example, since around 500 male criminals are currently being prepared for reintegration into society.

About a third of the prisoners in Geldern comes from the Duisburg or Kleve area, while the remaining two thirds come from other parts of North Rhine-Westphalia. Under certain conditions, it is possible to relocate prisoners from other correctional facilities to the JVA, which further promotes the vocational training and development of these people.

The "Craft in the Pick -up" initiative is an integral part of rehabilitation policy in Germany.
