On December 30, 2024, the Duisburg Zoo informed its visitors about the opening hours on New Year's Eve and New Year. The zoo, one of the most popular in North Rhine-Westphalia, will be open on New Year's Eve, December 31, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The last admission is already at 12.30 p.m., so visitors have enough time to visit the animals and take souvenir photos. Also on New Year, January 1, the zoo is ready for all animal lovers from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

The opening times were received positively by the visitors and ensured that reactions were gratifying on Facebook. In addition, those responsible hope for the well -being of the animals during the New Year's Eve.

Availability and parking spaces

The Duisburg Zoo is easy to reach by car via the A 3 and A 40 motorways. The Duisburg-Kaiserberg exit leads directly to the zoo. Parking spaces are signposted at the entrance to Mülheimer Strasse and on Carl-Benz-Straße. The parking spaces on Carl-Benz-Straße are about 10 minutes walk from the zoo, while there are other parking facilities at the nearby university, which is only about 5 minutes away on foot. The parking fee on the zoo parking spaces is 5 euros and these are only managed until the cash closes of the zoo, after which they are publicly and freely accessible.

For people with restrictions, there are sufficient handicapped parking spaces at the entrance and in the opposite residential area. On the side street "Am Zoo" there is a parking ban, compliance with which is regularly checked.

The journey by public transport is also convenient. The tram line 901 drives from Duisburg Central Station towards Mülheim/Zoo/Uni directly to the zoo and the “Zoo/Uni” stop is reached after about 4 minutes. From Mülheimer Hauptbahnhof, tram line 901 needs almost 20 minutes.

At the entrance to the zoo, a covered bicycle parking lot and a rental station of the metropoly wheel ruhr are available. The distance from Duisburg city center is about 3 km by bike, and three e-bike charging stations are available at the entrance for free use.
