Heavy traffic accidents: sensitization for young people in Hattingen!

Today, on January 22, 2025, the “Crash Course NRW” traffic prevention course takes place at the Grünstraße Realschule in Hattingen. Around 90 young people take part in this event, which deals with the serious consequences of traffic accidents. The initiative aims to draw young people aware of the dangers in road traffic and to sensitize them to responsible behavior. In addition to the police, rescue workers and psychosocial support are also involved in the event.

The course includes urgent descriptions of real traffic accidents, which often fatal. These representations should show the young people the severity and potential consequences of careless driving behavior. As part of the program, the students have the opportunity to ask direct questions to the emergency services and to receive further information on the pages of the Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis.

impressive statistics and causes of accidents

In 2019, 665,408 traffic accidents were registered in North Rhine-Westphalia, with 456 people lost their lives and over 13,000 people suffered serious injuries. An alarming fact is the disproportionate proportion of young road users among the causers of serious accidents. The main causes are particularly excessive speeds, distractions at the wheel and the non -laying of the seat belt. According to estimates, more than 50% of accidents come from a connection with alcohol and drugs. These statistics support the need and urgency of the "Crash Course NRW", which is based on suggestions from Staffordshire in England.

The program consists of three main components: the preparation of the participants, an impressive stage event and the subsequent follow -up. During the stage event, police officers, firefighters, paramedics and even relatives of accident victims will share their experiences. For this purpose, pictures and videos of accident sites are presented that should be deeply impressed by the young spectators. The central message is clear: traffic accidents are often the result of controlling and would be avoidable.

Scientific accompaniment and aftercare

Another important aspect of the program is the support by pastor who are present during and after the event. This ensures that the emotional reactions of the young people can be treated appropriately. In addition, time is available for discussions after the event, so that the students can process what they have heard. Materials for follow -up are available on the client server from the University of Cologne, which also scientifically accompany the program.

Studies show that young drivers who are between 18 and 24 still have a high accident rate. They cause twice as many accidents as older road users. Important causes are overpressure, lack of experience and distractions. The analysis of 18,000 data records of the ADAC air rescue confirms that a large part of the accidents of young drivers take place outside of closed towns, which underlines the need for action.

Overall, the "Crash Course NRW" aims to raise awareness of traffic safety and reduce the number of accidents among young drivers in the long term. By conveying direct experiences and realistic representations from practice, the participants learn to drive responsibly and safely.
