Sternsinger in the Chancellery: Children demand rights for their generation!
On January 7, 2025, a reception of representatives of the star singers from all over Germany took place in the Chancellery in Berlin. Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed four girls from Ennepetal who represent the diocese of Essen. The age group of the participants was between 12 and 15 years. The focus of the conversation was important topics such as the concerns of the star singers, children's rights, education and medical care.
In addition to the conversations, the young star singers wrote to the Christian house blessing on the wall of the Chancellery. Over Berlin, more than 100 star singers took part in the meeting.

This year's Epiphany is under the motto "Raise your voice! Stern singing for children's rights". This campaign has been recognized as an intangible UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015. The period of the star singing extends this year from December 27th to January 17th, 2025. Children move from door to door, sing songs and collect donations for various projects.
Last year, the Epiphany could collect almost 46 million euros. A total of around 1,500 children and 300 companions are expected for this year's campaign, who arrive for the opening on December 28th in the Cathedral of Paderborn. In North Rhine-Westphalia, tens of thousands of children, usually between 8 and 12 years old, are on the go to collect donations. Almost a hundred thousand children are active nationwide. The responsible persons of the campaign include the children's mission work and the Association of German Catholic Youth (BDKJ).
During visits, the star singers bring the church blessing "C+M+B" into the houses and campaign for the rights of children, which include, among other things, the right to education, healthy growing up and medical care. Visits to the Federal President and Chancellor are also part of the tradition. Growlings for the current motto are Kenya and Colombia, where the donations are particularly needed.
