Strict truck checks in Lüdenscheid: Verkehrsünde in sight!

On Thursday, February 4, 2025, the police in Lüdenscheid carried out increased controls for truck drivers. These measures aimed at monitoring the passage bans and speed limits in the urban area. In just a few hours, 41 truck drivers were waved to the roadside, with almost every third, specifically 14 drivers, without an exception. Due to the identified traffic uncertainties, two vehicles had to be shut down.

In addition, there were several violations of the legally regulated steering and rest times. Three drivers did not stick to the given break times. During the controls, the police also found that there was defective load securing. Another truck driver was stopped without a valid driving license. In addition, 59 drivers drove unjustifiably in resident-free streets in the city.

steering and rest periods in focus

A total of 339 road users were warned for exceeding the speed limits. Two car drivers were particularly noticeable: one from the Ennepe-Ruhr district was recorded at 59 km/h in a Tempo 30 zone, while another from the district area at 79 km/h instead of the permitted 50 km/h. The least careful road user came from the Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau and was caught at 73 km/h in another Tempo 30 zone. For him, a fine of EUR 428.50, an additional two points in Flensburg and a one -month driving ban was expected. The police announced that further controls in the region will follow.

Compliance with the regulations for truck drivers is not only important for these controls. EU regulations are crucial for security and efficiency in logistics. These contain speed limits, regulated steering times, breaks and rest periods, as well as specific regulations for securing loads and vehicle standards. The speed limits vary, whereby trucks in urban areas are allowed to drive a maximum of 50 km/h, on country roads between 70 and 80 km/h and on motorways between 80 and 90 km/h.

safety regulations and technology use

The regulations for compliance with the steering times are determined by regulation (EC) No. 561/2006. After a 4.5 hour drive, drivers have to take a break of 45 minutes, and the daily rest period is at least 11 hours, which can be shortened to 9 hours. These regulations are crucial to avoid fatigue and increase security on the streets. There are also strict emission standards that all trucks have to meet in the EU.

The use of crowds is required by law to document steering times and breaks. Technology solutions such as the Enhanced Vehicle Assistant (EVA) help to comply with the regulations and support fleet management through route optimization and automated reporting. In addition, they contribute to improving fuel efficiency and navigating through environmental zones.
