Trump plans peace with Putin: hope at the end of the Ukraine War!
On January 8, 2025, Donald Trump, the designated US President, announced the opportunity to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the continuing Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. Trump made it clear that such a meeting could take place after his inauguration on January 20. Although he could not call a precise appointment, he is convinced that Putin would be ready for a dialogue. Trump also expressed hope that the war could be stopped within six months, ideally even earlier. In the course of his presidential election campaign, Trump had claimed to be able to end the Ukraine war within 24 hours without going into detail how he wanted to implement this.
In a recent podcast discussion between the US podcaster Lex Fridman and the Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskyj, the possibility of negotiations with Trump is also discussed. Selenskyj was optimistic about planned discussions, but underlined that negotiations with Putin were only possible from a position of strength. He described Putin as a "deaf" and made a comparison to Voldemort from the Harry Potter series to clarify his intention to destroy. According to Selenskyj, there is a clear difference between constructive conversations and Putin's aggressive acts. He also praised Trump for his attitude to the Ukraine War and sees his approach a basis for peace through strength.

Selenskyj also expressed concerns that Ukraine could possibly be forced to make an unfavorable agreement. He therefore calls for security guarantees, including possible NATO membership and the provision of strong weapon packages on the part of the United States and the EU to prevent Putin's attack. Trump, who will take office on January 20, 2025, had previously promised to make peace in Ukraine "within 24 hours" after taking office.
