Celebration of the Suppenkirche: 10 years of help and community in Euskirchen!

On February 13, 2025, the Suppenkirche celebrates an important anniversary in the community center of the Evangelical Church in Euskirchen: its 10th anniversary. Since January 2015, the Suppenkirche has developed into an important point of contact for the needy and lonely people and offers free lunch every Thursday. Around 80 people are regularly together in the community center on Kölner Strasse to eat and exchange ideas.

The initiative is fully financed by donations. This happens both through larger amounts of money and through many small individual donations. Evidence of the need is not necessary, which makes access easier for everyone. At the end of the event, it is up to each visitor to leave a small donation for the food, which is not mandatory.

voluntary commitment in the focus

Der soziale Aspekt der SuppenKirche wird besonders betont, da hier das Miteinander im Vordergrund steht. Around 40 volunteers work together in five teams and alternate while cooking. These voluntary activities are not only a way to help others, but also promote the personal development of those involved. According to Deutsches-ehrenamt.de , out of civic engagement, there is often an inner need to help people or to search for a social connection.

The Suppenkirche has developed into a fixed facility in Euskirchen over the years. The Evangelical parish hopes that this commitment will continue to exist and that food and community can continue to offer in the future. Interessierte, die sich ehrenamtlich engagieren möchten, sind herzlich eingeladen, sich bei der Ehrenamtskoordinatorin Iris Hoffman zu melden.

The importance of social engagement

social initiatives such as the Suppenkirche reflect a growing awareness of the support of the needy. The need for such offers has increased in recent years, which, among other things, is due to higher social sensitivity to social issues. According to volunteer24.de there are numerous opportunities for social commitment that can be done in the short term and locally or internationally.

Homeless aids, food spending and promotions to support refugees are examples of civic engagement that is offered in many forms and facets. Digital donations and virtual volunteer work also expand the accessibility and reach of such help offers.

The joy of helping others and making a contribution to the community is not only shown in the Suppenkirche, but in the numerous initiatives that take place in Euskirchen and beyond.
