Luxembourg's gourmet scene: star kitchen despite difficult times!

The Luxembourg catering scene is currently experiencing an exciting phase that offers both challenges and new opportunities. The attraction of German star restaurants that increasingly attract Luxembourg customers is particularly striking. Restaurants like the Louis in the Hotel La Maison in Saarlouis, which is awarded two Michelin stars, have a pioneering role.

Numerous vehicles with Luxembourg license plates the parking lot of the hotel, which underlines the popularity of the restaurant in the region. Chef Sebastian Sandor has made a name for himself by inviting renowned chefs every three months to create exclusive star menus. Most recently, Niclas Nussbaumber, the chef of the Michelin stars awarded two Michelin Staren Mühle in the Black Forest. His creations ranged from Dorade with Wasabi to desserts such as ice coffee with chocolate and caramel.

The challenges of gastronomy in Luxembourg

Luxembourg gastronomy, however, faces some challenges. The closure of the La Villa de Camille et Julien restaurant reduced the number of one-star restaurants in Luxembourg to six. High rents and rising prices for food and staff also contribute to the uncertainty of the industry. Laurent Fny from the Gault & Millau leader will discuss the current stagnation and hopes for a recovery in the coming year with new, promising offers.

Currently there is a restaurant with two Michelin stars in Luxembourg and seven with a star. In comparison, Germany does better, with two two-star restaurants and four one-star restaurants in Saarland. German top restaurants, such as Victor’s Fine Dining in Perl, were able to position themselves as attractive for Luxembourgish gourmets. An important reason for this are the often lower prices for tasting menus in Germany, which is a tempting option for many.
