Euskirchen starts citizens' workshops for new flood protection concept!
The city of Euskirchen has developed a new flood protection concept presented in several citizen workshops. With the support of the engineering office Okeanos Smart Data Solutions GmbH, which specializes in hydrology and water management, the concept aims to provide comprehensive information about municipal flood protection measures. This initiative is particularly relevant for the residents of the areas that were severely affected by the flood in 2021.
Since December 11, 2024, five citizens' workshops have taken place in which the residents could bring in their ideas and suggestions to improve flood protection. The workshops were carried out in the districts of Palmersheim, Roitzheim, Euenheim and Frauenberg. This creates a space for the exchange of personal experiences from the flood disaster and for suggestions for the further development of the flood protection concepts. The integration of the community into these processes is of central importance to develop solutions that take into account both technical and human requirements.
Current workshops and their target groups
The next citizens' workshop took place on January 22, 2025 at 6 p.m. in the village community center in Roitzheim. Residents at the Erft, in Roitzheim, Wüschheim and Kessenich, were invited to share their experiences and ideas. The aim of the workshops is to capture the realistic material effects and needs of those affected. This enables experts to develop well -founded measures that respond to the specific requirements of the population.
In addition to this workshop, two more appointments are provided:

technical support and future topics
The city of Euskirchen works closely with the Erftverband to strengthen the inter -municipal flood protection cooperation. Experts from Okeanos not only present technical aspects and innovations for flood prevention, but also use modern technologies for early flood recognition. These different approaches should help increase the efficiency of the protective measures and to ensure the safety of the residents.
For the districts that are not taken into account, another workshop on the subject of heavy rain is already being planned. This shows the commitment of the city and its partners to continuously address the challenges in the field of flood protection and to develop innovative solutions.
like Radio Euskirchen is the central element in the development of the new Flood protection concept. The workshops offer a valuable platform to incorporate local concerns directly into the planning. If you would like to find out more about the initiative, visit the website of the Erftverbandes .
