Rescue service in Euskirchen: Academy fights against a shortage of skilled workers!

The emergency services in the Euskirchen region face challenges that are characterized by a noticeable shortage of skilled workers. According to Ksta.de has become active to combat this lack. Last year the emergency services academy (RDA) of the DRK district association Euskirchen was founded, with the aim of offering modern and flexible training for rescue workers and paramedics.

Before that, many prospective specialists had to take a vacation or plan whole weekends for their training. The RDA now offers modular training courses that are better oriented towards the needs of the participants. Training as a rescue worker takes place over four weeks full -time, while part -time is required for about eight weeks. The training as a paramedic also usually lasts three months, but can be extended to about nine months.

In the first twelve months, the RDA has already welcomed 183 course participants and currently employs 17 people. The training includes practical experience in hospitals and in the emergency services, which is consistently positive by the participants. This can also be seen in the feedback that the graduates expressed in which the support and the mediated expertise are highlighted.

The academy is also free of charge for DRK members, while non-members for training as a rescue worker must pay 800 euros and for those for the paramedic between 2500 and 3000 euros. These prices reflect the high standards that are conveyed in training. The content of the training also agrees with the requirements of the emergency services and examination regulations in North Rhine-Westphalia and include important theoretical basics for emergency care.

The district of Euskirchen plans to further expand the training capacities in the emergency services. Six people are currently training as an emergency paramedic, and an increase in the rescue guards and the upgrading of existing locations in the new emergency service requirements are sought. This offers a perspective for the future ensuring emergency care in the region.
