Homeland sounds: Schleiden community foundation celebrates dialect!

In January 2020, the Schleiden community foundation started the "Districts on Platt" series, which deals with the special features of the various villages and districts of the region. This series ended in February 2023 with the town of Wolfgarten. All 18 local portraits were summarized in a bound issue that is now available.

Bernd Kehren designed a typical drawing for each of the portraits, while Manni's texts were written. The idea for this series comes from Marcel Wolter, the city's deputy and deputy chairman of the community foundation. Lang received support from Nicole Gutmann from the Schleiden City Archives, which provided HIM information about the villages.

The district ideas contain both a historical overview and anecdotes. The texts are written in a "mixed language" of High German and Platt and were recorded in a recording studio by Ralf Kramp. The audio files are available on the website of the Schleiden community foundation. While the series was well received in many places, representatives from Dreiborn and Nachreises were criticized for the dialect representation. A section in the new issue deals with the differences between High German, creepers and Dreiborne Platt.

The Board Foundation's board of trustees decided in December 2023 to publish the series as a bound issue. This comprises 140 pages and has a circulation of 2000 copies. Each issue can be purchased in the antechamber of the mayor and the first deputy, the issuing times are Monday to Friday from 7.45 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Thursday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The administration cannot be reached during the closing times between the years. Wolter emphasizes that the magazine is a gift for all citizens who are interested in their homeland and dialect.

The booklet captures the variety of Schleiden villages and is a snapshot that does not take into account every club or every company.
