Schleiden triathlon hero Urban Scheld: A master of his field!

The Schleiden Triathlete Urban Scheld successfully highlighted its versatile career as a athlete on February 11, 2025. In 2024 he became German champion in the crossstriathlon in the age group Ü60 and has an impressive career in endurance sports. "I particularly like the competition atmosphere in which you interact after the race," said Scheld. His motivation and passion for sport have been unbroken, even if he has tried technical sports such as handball in the past.

The crossstriathlon, which Scheld regularly contests, comprises 1.5 kilometers of swimming, 36 kilometers of mountain biking and 10 kilometers of trail running. Such events face special challenges for the athletes, especially since the competitions often take place in open water, where they are faced with current and water pollution.

success and upcoming challenges

Urban Scheld looks back proud of his success. He has always enjoyed sporting heights since 1984 and was able to win the German Crosstriathlon championship eleven years ago. In addition to his own sporting development, Scheld is also committed to the young athletes of the TuS Schleiden, who were also able to achieve success.

A planned triathlon in Schleiden had to be shifted to indoor pools due to the water depth of the Olef, which brings its own challenges. Nevertheless, Scheld remains optimistic and plans to participate in the X-Terra competition in Switzerland and at other championships in Zittau and possibly in the X-Terra World Championship in Italy.

success of the club colleagues

Scheld's club colleague Milena Vogel from Hollerath also made a name for herself. At the Xterra World Championships on Maui, Hawaii, she took 294th place in the overall classification and was second in the age group. The competition, which is considered the counterpart to the Ironman in normal triathlon, presented around 800 athletes with an enormous challenge. The TuS Schleiden supported both athletes by taking over the starting fees and covering their travel expenses with the sponsor "Green Point".

Scheld himself cut to 11th place in the age group 55-59 years and now has the opportunity to prove themselves in future competitions. Both athletes were also accompanied by Milena's father, Jürgen Vogel, and club colleague Ede Hanf and benefited from intensive preparation.

The community and the team spirit in TuS Schleiden strengthen the motivation of all athletes and enable them to work together on their sporting skills. Scheld and bird are living examples of how regional sport can not only promote personal success, but also a strong cooperation.
