Carnival in Gelsenkirchen: Fools celebrate colorful spectacle!
On March 3, 2025, Gelsenkirchen experienced the unforgettable spectacle of the carnival train, in which thousands of Jeckinnen and Jecken lined the streets. Under the motto "Gelsenkirchen remains colorful", the participants celebrated the diversity of the city. The train was strongly shaped by the ideas of the Gelsenkirchen carnival clubs, including the foot group of the local election alliance on Gelsenkirchen.
The group was represented with about 30 people and had a striking sign with the inscription "Workers' enemies of Germany undesirable". Erik Thoma von on Gelsenkirchen had a lively appearance and was pleased that the group was able to take part again in the previous year despite the previous exclusions. Nevertheless, the humorous and consistently positive motto awareness of the Jecken was noticeable.

Also part of the festive hustle and bustle was the children's organization Rotfüchse, which spoke to the youngest jecken with great enthusiasm. The mood on the train was consistently positive, with numerous dance performances and interactions with the audience. Visitors were pleased with the great atmosphere and the lively performances.
An essential element of the Gelsenkirchen carnival is the intensive preparations that take place in the period before the big festival. Uwe Gemsa, the chairman of the fool's guild, emphasized the importance of the commitment of all helpers. The KG Gelsenkirchener Farrenzunft 1976 e.V. is known for providing the city's prince couples and leaving no effort in the construction of prince's cars and the production of new dance clothes.

The town hall storm in the Hans-Sachs-Haus, which took place on February 27, 2025, is particularly noteworthy. In this festive framework, the fools were looking for the city key, with Mayor Karin Welge affected. The urban facilities had limited opening times for this occasion. The citizens' center in the Hans-Sachs-Haus closed at 11 a.m., while other facilities in the city also closed their doors early on Weiberfastnacht. The short-term changes was that the vehicle registration office and the driver's license authority were no longer available from 11:30 a.m., which required separate attention. The recycling center on Wickingstrasse was open on March 3 to 11:45 a.m., while the recycling center on Adenauerallee was closed due to renovation work.
The preparations and the honor of the carnival in Gelsenkirchen make it clear that the city is characterized by community and party mood. The carnival is not only a time of celebration, but also a phase of coming together, creative work and lively exchange in the diverse Gelsenkirchen society.
With the exclamation "luck on" the fool's guild completed the celebrations. And although the highlight of the session, the Rosenmontagszug, is still imminent, Carnival Day in Gelsenkirchen was an uplifting sign of the community and the cohesion of the citizens in this unique city.
