NRW invests over 300 million euros in urban planning projects!

The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia has announced the selection selection for the 2025 urban development program. In a comprehensive initiative, 133 projects with a total of around 302 million euros are supported. This enables cities and municipalities to start the implementation phase immediately, even without the presence of the regular approval notices. The responsible ministry has already approved the start of measures, which significantly accelerates the implementation of the planned projects. The funding is provided by the state government for around 150.3 million euros and around 149.2 million euros.

particularly highlighted are some specific projects that benefit from this funding pot. In Gelsenkirchen, for example, 15 million euros flow into the special funding area "Future partnership Gelsenkirchen". Recklinghausen receives 14.7 million euros for the development of the "Heidesee" and the redesign of the site of the former hub racing track. Other municipalities are also favored, such as Raesfeld with 10.7 million euros for the renovation of the monument "Castle Raesfeld" and Ahlen, where an amount of 9.6 million euros, including 7.1 million euros for the town hall, is made available.

Urban development is pursued to reduce urban planning grievances and losses of function. This is done as part of an integrated approach for the sustainable development of areas and quarters. The current measures are in the context of a urban development subsidy that has been restructured since 2020, which includes programs such as "living centers", "social cohesion" and "growth and sustainable renewal". These programs aim to strengthen city and district centers, to upgrade disadvantaged quarters and to support adaptation to demographic and structural changes. Previous urban development measures are still valid according to the 2008 guidelines, but the new yardstick is shaped by the joint efforts of the federal and state level.

inter -municipal exchange and networking

Another important aspect of urban development in North Rhine-Westphalia is the newly founded network urban development NRW. This network promotes inter -municipal exchange of experiences and knowledge. Here, too, the Ministry of Home, Local, Construction and Digitization of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia uses supportive funds of urban development. At a founding meeting on January 15, 2024 in Münster, numerous representatives of the member municipalities and cooperation partners were present. The vision of the network is to look at different topics and challenges in the field of urban development from different perspectives and to develop practical solutions to deal with urban problems together.

Land NRW reports that urban development funding offers more than just financial support; It also creates a framework for sustainable urban developments.
