Horst Castle is considered the most important monument of the Renaissance in the Ruhr area and is one of the oldest renaissance buildings in Westphalia. With its opening as a museum on November 6, 2010, the castle offers the permanent exhibition "Life and Work in the Renaissance". This exhibition addresses the transition from the Middle Ages to modern times and the cultural influences that have shaped the region. Rutger von der Horst, the client, was in contact with ancient architecture tracts and Italian masterpieces.
