Renovation of a row house in Hampstead: Charm meets modern!

in Hampstead, a charming neighborhood in the Camden district, Louis Hagen Hall transformed the potential of a former row house from the 1960s into a modern home. This comprehensive renovation refers to the architectural history of the area, which in 1968 received special protection for its buildings by the Town & Country Planning Act. Hampstead is known for its harmonious connection between traditional and modern architecture, which becomes clear in iconic buildings such as the Isokon, a prototype of urban living from the 1930s.

The renovated house, called "Pine Heath", was acquired by a young family who wanted to adapt the living ambience to their needs. During the first talks at the Canyon House in Primrose Hill, the idea came up not only to modernize the kitchen and bathrooms, but also to revise the entire house. "The originally commissioned redesign quickly became a comprehensive renovation," explains Hagen Hall.

sustainability in focus

A central concern of the renovation was to improve energy efficiency. This priority reflects the modern objective to implement future investments for sustainable living. The original room layout was skillfully retained, with the focus on improving visual axes and movement flows. Old doors were replaced by floor -to -ceiling tissue doors that are not only functional, but also create a clear view and a bright atmosphere.

The architects also had the growing family in view, as the creation of more storage space shows. When choosing the materials, they used the original wooden cladding made of brazil pine, while carpentry work was manufactured for fittings made of stained cherry tree veneer. This decision aims to create a contemporary answer to the original architecture instead of just imitating it.

a remarkable architect

The impressive architecture of Hampsteads cannot be discussed without the mention of Ted Levy. In the 1960s he designed a group of nine houses that significantly shaped the character of the district. "Pine Heath" is not only an example of a successful renovation, but also a testimony to the sustainable construction and the stylistic development of the mid-cowering architecture.

The renovation of Louis Hagen Hall impressively shows how historical architecture can be reconciled with modern living needs. This project is a prime example of the symbiosis of Tradition and innovation and reflects the high standards that are placed in Hampstead. The fact that such projects can be realized in a district that is known for its village mood and architectural diversity is not only valued by the new residents, but also by the community that is considered to preserve the special flair.
