150 years of Beisenkamp-Gymnasium: A ceremony full of emotions!

On January 24, 2025, the Beisenkamp-Gymnasium In Hamm an impressive 150 annual existence in the Aula, in which around 300 guests took part. Among them was Mayor Marc Herter, a former school student who initiated the celebrations with a greeting. Margali Censier from the French message used the event to highlight the school's European orientation.

The program on this festive day was varied. Appearances by the Big Band, the Choir and a rock band as well as performances by dancers filled the occasion with life and music. The school is named after the surroundings "Beisenkamp", which is known for its rush family. Its roots go back to 1795/96, whereby the high school has been located in the south of Hammer since 1925 and was taken over on October 1, 1875.

The development of the Beisenkamp-Gymnasium

The Beisenkamp-Gymnasium originally served the formation of girls and aimed to prepare them for the support of a husband. In 1908 the school gained qualification as a lyceum and offered university entrance qualification from 1927. The move to a former teacher seminar took place in 1925, but the school was not spared challenges. A partial destruction during the air war in 1944 led to a difficult post -war period in which the school under the direction of director Wilhelm Ellbracht operated in a former barracks. In 1951 they returned to the Beisenkamp, but started from 1962 with the step -by -step demolition of the old building.

The modernization of the building was continued until 1980, with ongoing renovations and a planned redesign of the school yard in 2025. It is particularly noteworthy that boys have also been approved since 1973. The bilingual-French branch was introduced in 1988, and the school received certification as a European school in 2009 and in 2022 as an Erasmus Plus school.

cultural and social activities

Numerous events are planned in the course of the 150th anniversary. A play is prepared under the title "Back and forth", the backdrop of which is designed by a literature course. This happens parallel to the resumption of the exchange program with Toul, France, while the ninth classes experience adventure in escape games and climbing.

In addition, other activities such as a school festival and alumni meetings are planned that help strengthen the school community over the school years. A special work of art, an anniversary painting by the student Lilly Peka, inspired by Claude Monet, is also presented as part of the celebrations.

The Beisenkamp-Gymnasium is one of the oldest institutions in Hamm, and his history awareness is shaped by a mixture of tradition and innovation. 150 years of education, culture and community development are the focus of this significant anniversary, which not only looks back on its successful past, but also designs its future with numerous new projects and initiatives.
