North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) has established itself as a hot tip for nature lovers, because two of his parks were awarded the most beautiful in the travel guide "Happy Places-Gardens of the World" by Lonely Planet . The outstanding representatives are the Duisburg-Nord landscape park and the Maximilianpark in Hamm, both with unique offers and impressive history.

The Duisburg-Nord landscape park, located on the site of a former steel mill, is a tribute to the industrial past of the Ruhr area. Here nature has impressively recaptured, with flora and fauna, which thrive in this post -industrial area. The Maximilian Park in Hamm

The Maximilian Park in Hamm is the second park from NRW, which is mentioned in the list. The admission price for adults is 6 euros and 3.50 euros for children, whereby the park is open daily from 9.30 a.m. to at least 5 p.m.

In the landscape park, ore bunkers can be climbed freely and an impressive light show by Jonathan Park can be admired, which takes place from Friday to Sunday at dusk. The visitor center at the park entrance organizes tours and offers tickets for interested parties. The park can be reached comfortably with tram line 903 from Duisburg Central Station, whereby the landscape park-north stop is only about 700 meters away.

Another exciting place in North Rhine-Westphalia is the nature and water experience park Emscherland, which was opened in 2020 and was largely completed in 2023. This park has changed a lot through extensive renaturation measures by the Emscher, which runs more than 80 kilometers. Formerly used as a sewer, the Emscher now offers an attractive floodplain landscape. Emscherland offers attractive paths, old trees and orchards.

In addition, there is a viewing hill and a new lookout tower, which was designed by Tadashi Kawamata in 2010. The muzzle of the Suderwicher Bach, which now flows into the Emscher, is another highlight of the park. Part of the historic Henrichenburg Castle is preserved as a ground monument, and comprehensive paths ensure good accessibility by car, bus, train and bicycle.
