Erkelenz shows heart: 7,365 euros for education and help collected!
On March 10, 2025, it will be announced that the community secondary school (GHS) Erkelenz has received a donation amount of 7,365.69 euros. This significant sum was presented on March 7 during a solemn donation handover, which took place as part of the traditional lay judge. This event, which will be organized on Friday before Christmas Eve, aims to support charitable purposes by donating local institutions instead of buying gifts for the guests.
The participants of the donation were prominent personalities such as Thomas Brockers and Sven Frauenkorn from Volksbank Heinsberg, Franz D. Meurers from Volksbank Mönchengladbach and Thomas Giessing from the Kreissparkasse Heinsberg. Other guests were Markus Monjeamb from GHS Erkelenz, Dr. Hans-Heiner Gotzen and Joachim Mützke from the city of Erkelenz as well as Thomas Knur from New AG and Daniel Nobis from the district waterworks. At this event it became clear how important community and solidarity are in Erkelenz.
donation purpose and planned projects
The donations collected go to the GHS Erkelenz association. The funds should be used in particular for projects such as reading time and the one-world shop. The donation campaign pursues the goal of enriching school life and opening up new learning opportunities for the students. In addition to the donations, the district water plant also contributed 100 pretzels for the local table, which further underlines the general willingness to help in the region.
The willingness to donate the local banks was remarkable. Both the Kreissparkasse Heinsberg and the Volksbanken from Mönchengladbach and Heinsberg each contributed 1,500 euros. An additional piggy bank brought 1,365.69 euros, which increased the total amount to the proud amount of 7,365.69 euros.
tradition of the lay judge
The lay judge is an established tradition in Erkelenz that enables local companies and institutions to get socially committed. In 2023, similar events were collected for the Erkelenzer Tafel. From this sum, Thomas Giessing, board member of the Kreissparkasse Heinsberg, spontaneously rounded up to 8,000 euros, which again underlines the generous gesture of the participating institutions. These activities show how deeply rooted the charity in the community and how many people are willing to work for their fellow human beings.
Overall, the donation handover to the GHS Erkelenz illustrates how important social engagement is on site and what positive effects it has on the region's educational landscape. This is not only a sign of the solidarity of the community, but also a step into a promising future for the students of GHS Erkelenz.
