Financial alarm bells ring: Gangelt fights for the future!

In the last meeting of 2024, the Gangelt Council decided on the budget for 2025. The new budget provides income of around 33 million euros, while the expenses are over 37 million euros. As a result, the compensation reserve of 4,280,600 euros will have to be used.

In this context,

treasurer Gerd Dahlmanns expressed concerns about the financial means for municipal self -government. The stagnating tax revenue and increasing expenditure, in particular through social benefits, put a strain on the municipality's coffers. These increases in expenditure are due to adjustments to the control rates in social assistance and citizens' money, as well as on inclusion slots and integration aids.

economic challenges and projects

The municipality's compensation reserve rose from 4 million euros in 2009 to 21 million euros in 2022, but will be used up by the end of 2028. 94 percent of the municipal tax income is required to cover the district levies. The Council is committed to social responsibility, but does not see itself as a loss of a default for the federal and state governments.

As part of the session, two important projects were presented. This includes a new shopping center on Sittarder Straße, the concept of which was unanimously supported. A large department store, gastronomy, snack bars, a children's fashion shop, a food discounter, a non-food discounter, a shoe store, a drugstore and a variety of food are planned. In addition, children's playgrounds are to be created both outdoors as well as covered. Growing houses are intended for fresh fruit and vegetables.
