On May 3, 2025, there was a fire event in Süggerath, which quickly led to a great fire brigade. Extensive parts burned down in a former restaurant building including the associated hall. The fire brigade prevented the flames from spreading to adjacent residential buildings, roofs and stables with a rapid use. A total of 180 emergency services were on site, including units from Geilenkirchen, Heinsberg, Hückelhoven, Erkelenz, Übach-Palenberg and Gangelt. The asbestos -containing roof panels, which were burned in the course of the fire, were a special challenge. Affected residents were immediately informed, but it was found that the soot ratio on surfaces in the area is not a further risk.
