New Year's concert: Experience emotional sounds with Jenske Wijshoff!

On January 8, 2025, the New Year's concert of the Instrumental Association Karken (IVK) and the Harmonie Concordia Melick took place in the Oberbrucher Festhalle. The evening was characterized by emotional moments and musical highlights. Under the direction of Xavier Kuijpers and moderated by Marion Frenken, the audience was motivated to stand after both concert halves.

The concert opened with the concert march "Grammatique" by Gerardus Hendrik Boedijn, followed by the "Suite from Hymn of the Highlands" by Philip Sparke. A special Highlight of the evening was the appearance of the Dutch mezzo -soprano Jenske Wijshoff, who is known from "Holland’s Got Talent". She sang the play "I Shall Love But Thee", which was composed by Jan van der Roost for the wedding of his son. She also presented the famous Vilja song from "The Funny Widow" by Franz Lehár. The IVK showed the instrumental piece "Innuendo" by Marco Somadossi, which is based on a song by the band Queen, and ended the first half of the concert with "Tango for a Toreador" by Hermann Chrioffel Snijders.

touching moments and program changes

After the standing ovations, there was a joint encore with Jenske Wijshoff. In addition, a minute's silence was considered a suddenly deceased musician of the Harmonie Concordia. The second half of the concert started with "The Last Spring" by Edvard Grieg, headed by Pierre Cnoops. The Harmonie Concordia presented, among other things, the legend No. 4 by Antonín Dvořák in an editing by Pavel Stanek, "Funiculi Funicula Rhapsody" by Yo Goto, the "Polka Italne" by Sergei Rachmaninoff (arranged by Stefan Schwalgin) and "Portraits of Spain" by TEO Serparicio Barberán. Solo flutist Leonie Wolters, who is active in the Wuppertal symphony orchestra, also presented "Sketches for Flute" by André Waignein.

In the run -up to the New Year's concert, the musicians were in the mode of festive festival accompaniment, including for Sankt Martin, Nikolaus, Advent and Christmas Eve. The first register samples and the finalization of the program had already taken place. The next concert is planned for January 5, 2025, also in the Oberbrucher Festhalle, where Jenske Wijshoff will again appear as a soloist and the musical direction is again taken over by Xavier Kuijpers. At this concert, a program work that includes the "Hymn of the Highlands - Part I" is presented. Tickets can be ordered online or by email to tickets@instrumentalverein-karken.de, as well as from members of the IVK and at various ticket agencies, such as in the Landmetz Guelschau Heinrich and the Gollenstede bookshop.
