Opening of the Hölkeskampus: Herne celebrates education and sport in the new center!

On May 9, 2025, the redesigned Hölkeskampus will be officially opened in Herne. The city of Herne invites you to a neighborhood festival that takes place from 2:30 p.m. in the school yard of the Kolibri School at Jean-Vogel-Straße 36. This event falls together with the nationwide day of urban development, an occasion that is intended to inform citizens about important urban planning projects. The aim is to present the measures realized by urban development. The motto of the celebration is "Sport - Spiel - Fun!"

The Hölkeskampus is designed as a new center for education and encounter at the Hölkeskampring. The city of Herne has invested in the redesign and the new building of various facilities. A total of 14.6 million euros have already been put into the project, with another 6.7 million euros that are being planned. HalloHerne.de emphasizes that the financing comes from both the city's own funds and four funding programs.

diverse facilities in the Hölkeskampus

The Hölkeskampus comprises several important facilities, including the Kolibri School, the elementary school with a newly designed school yard, and the Ingeborgstrasse day care center. The latter offers space for 70 children and is equipped with a gymnasium and an outdoor area for vehicles. The H2Ö district center, which serves as a starting point for all generations, is also one of the new offers. There are various services here, from a youth leisure facility to social services.

The Kolibri School is managed as an “listening” focus and is equipped with sound low classrooms and barrier-free access. The school yard of the Kolibri School is converted into a jungle theme throughout 2022, which offers additional climbing and playing options. In addition, the newly opened multifunctional hall, which was inaugurated in February 2025, is used for both school sports and various leisure activities. This hall is also wheelchair accessible and offers gymnastics rooms.

invitation to the neighborhood festival

The neighborhood festival on May 9 offers a wide range of activities for visitors. This includes unicycling, a city roller course, can throwing, gate wall shooting, calisthenics, handicrafts and painting as well as large and movement games. A family photo station and the popular duck fishing will also be available. Glitzer tattoos should not be missing from the children. Your own indoor shoes have to be brought with you for unicycling, and your own city scooter is required for the city roller course.

To support such projects, the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building Service writes funding guidelines that serve sustainable urban development. Further information on urban development funding can be found on the page Staedtebaufoerung.info . These funding measures aim at strengthening inner cities and improving social structures.
