THW Herne: Seven new vehicles for better disaster protection!
The THW local association in Herne receives significant support in the form of seven new vehicles. This investment, which has a total value of 627,559 euros, includes a tipper with a loading crane, a team transport car and five supporters. This measure takes place as part of an overall program to improve the operational capacity of the Technical Relief Agency (THW) on site, which is carried out over the period from 2022 to 2025. The SPD member of the Bundestag, Michelle Müntefering, commented on the strengthening of civil and disaster protection in the past three years and emphasizes the continuous need for this support
.
The infrastructure, which is made available to the THW operations, is particularly relevant. A new facility on Plutostraße was presented in a visit by MEPs Müntefering and the Federal Chairman Lars Klingbeil in the THW Wanne-Eickel. This was completed in October of the previous year and is intended to play an important role for the emergency services in the region. Representatives of various organizations, including the ASB disaster protection Herne and the Red Cross, were also present. Müntefering emphasized the importance of the work of the emergency services, especially in extreme situations such as the flood disaster.coordination and future of disaster protection
During the visit, the Bundestag members spoke with the emergency services about the previous experiences and findings on the future establishment of disaster protection. Lars Klingbeil promised support for good equipment for organizations in civil protection in order to secure their operational readiness. This is particularly important in view of the challenges that have become clear in recent years, such as natural disasters. The central procurement and equipment of the emergency vehicles takes place by the Federal Office for Population Protection and Disaster Aid (BBK). According to the BBK, a total of 5,421 emergency vehicles and equipment are planned to supplement the disaster protection of the federal states in special situations. The vehicles are specially designed for various danger sites, including CBRN dangers. The equipment concept of the supplementary disaster protection dates from 2008 and focuses particularly on spatially limited large damage.
This initiative, which is associated with the new vehicles in the THW Herne, represents a further step to improve the possible uses and to strengthen disaster protection on site. The THW local association in Herne is therefore better equipped in order to be able to act quickly and effectively in an emergency. The support of the BBK and the political actors is crucial to further optimize the resource equipment.
