Cute the winter birds! NABU calls Herner to the big bird counting

on Sunday, January 12, 2025, the NABU Herne organizes the "Hour of Winter Birds 2025". This campaign takes place from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the biological station eastern Ruhr area, located at Vinckestraße 91, 44623 Herne. The event marks the starting signal of the nationwide NABU winter bird counting and is carried out under the technical direction of Norbert Kilimann.

Last year, 2024, a total of 21 different bird species and 72 birds could be counted at the all -year feed system. Interested parties are cordially invited to take part in this count. It is recommended to bring your own binoculars to be able to observe the feathered friends optimally. The sightings will take place in the weather -protected foyer, which is equipped with a panoramic window to offer a good overview of the environment.

goal of the campaign

The "hour of winter birds" is a joint initiative by NABU and LBV (Landesbund für bird and nature conservation). The aim of the campaign is to motivate nature -loving people to count and report birds on feed houses, in gardens, on balconies or in parks. In particular, the focus is on familiar and widespread species such as Meisen, Finken, Dinklchen and Spatzen.

The next nationwide count takes place between 10 and 12 January 2025. Participants can report their observations by January 20, 2025. A telephone reporting hotline will no longer be offered from 2025. Instead, reports can be submitted online via the "Vogelwelt" or post. Materials such as coloring pages and puzzles are also available for the participants.
