Discover gardens: The large garden festival in the Ruhrbogen 2025!
On April 12, 2025, the project "Open Gardens in the Ruhrbogen" was officially opened. At the same time, the exhibition "Diversity in the Garden" took place in the Arnsberg City Library. On this occasion, the mayor and representatives of the municipalities involved presented the inter -municipal project. This year, gardens in the cities of Arnsberg, Fröndenberg/Ruhr, Hemer, Iserlohn, Menden (Sauerland) and Neuenrade open their gates for garden lovers.
The planned opening days offer visitors the opportunity to experience the variety of private gardens. The dates are set on May 11, June 15, July 13, August 10 and September 7, 2025. A special highlight will be the "Lights Gardens" event on September 6, 2025. On these days, visitors get an insight into the lovingly designed gardens of private garden owners.
peculiarities of garden guidance
The different gardens each have their own charm and special features. On June 15, 2025, the garden of Roger Schriever will present its “Wildgarten” at Bergstraße 10, while Gudrun and Horst Sulzer show their “Rosen- und Staudengarten” at Wieser Weg 57. On July 13th, Rita Gierse opens her “little garden happiness” in Affeln, and the Berentrop allotment garden is also available for a visit.
The light gardens on September 6th will offer a particularly festive atmosphere when Jessica and Lars Fittkau present their “small rose and perennial garden” on the street on the clever 6 in Küntrop. On September 7th, the vineyards invite you to visit the vineyard on the detour in Neuenrade. There the Musikverein Neuenrade will provide musical entertainment from 3 p.m.
Information for visitors
Further information on the gardens, including images and journey descriptions, can be found on the website www.gaerten-im-ruhrbogen.de . The project is also funded by the support of local sponsors such as Hagebaumarkt and Floraland Arens + Hilgert and through domestic savings banks.
A highlight of the "Open Gardens in the Ruhrbogen" project is the patchwork garden at the Schwedenhaus of the Kordes-Neuhaus family. Here materials from broken houses as well as returns and malfunctions are used creatively. The area designed as a kit shows the potential for sustainable gardening and creative design.
Together with various path lacquer and decorative accessories from different epochs, this garden forms a unique place to explore the beauty of nature and learn more about innovative garden ideas.
The objectives of such projects are not only the promotion of garden culture, but also the improvement in competitiveness in the horticultural sector. The BMEL's innovation program, as described by Inuga , supports developments in the agricultural and nutritional economy in order to advance sustainable nutrition and climate protection. These initiatives thus contribute to promoting future -proof concepts for urban gardening and green infrastructures.
