The meaning of the blood donation

blood donations are urgently needed in Germany. 15,000 blood donations are required every day, and only about 3 % of the population are active donors. In 2022, over 3.2 million erythrocyte concentrates and around 484,000 platelets concentrates were consumed. The need for donations of blood is particularly evident in patients with medical emergencies and chronic diseases, with about 20 % of blood preparations for patients with tumor diseases. It is important to sensitize the importance of the blood donation in order to increase the number of donors and to secure the supply, since blood preparations only have a limited shelf life.
