Crime in Höxter: burglaries rise dramatically!
The Höxter district police authority today published the crime report for 2024. In total, a total number of 6,820 crimes was recorded, which represents an increase of 44 cases compared to the previous year. The number of crime (KHZ) is almost unchanged compared to 2023 (4,778) and remains below the average of North Rhine-Westphalia (7,689) and that for East Westphalia-Lippe (5,590) according to Hoexter-News .
The striking increase in burglaries, which has climbed from 49 to 81 cases, is particularly worrying. This trend has prompted the police to initiate increased prevention measures and targeted investigative work. The total information rate is 61.33 %, whereby the rate could be more than doubled in the case of burglaries.
drug crime and violent crime
A pleasant aspect of crime statistics is the decline in drug crime, which has dropped from 472 to 296 registered cases. This success was supported by uncovering a cannabis plantation with 593 plants in Vinebeck. With 1,391 cases, violent crimes remained almost constant compared to the previous year (1,346). The clarification rate in this area is an impressive 90.58 %.
The serious offenses include three homicides that have been registered in Warburg and Nieheim. The figures on domestic violence have hardly dropped with 395 cases (previous year: 394). On the other hand, there is a decline from 24.25 % to 203 cases in the sexual offenses.
regional differences
The legal situation within the circle shows that Höxter has the highest number of burglaries with 20 cases. Warburg followed with 19 cases, while Bad Driburg registered 10 cases. Willebadessen, on the other hand, only had one case of burglary. District Administrator Michael Stickel emphasized the positive security situation, but at the same time warned of the increase in burglaries.
In the broader context, the police crime statistics from North Rhine-Westphalia also record a decline in crime by 1 % in 2024. href = "https://www.land.nrw/Pressemitteigteilung/polizei-kriminalstatistik-2024-Kriminalitaet-sinkt-weniger-raub-and-theft"> Land.nrw ).
The increase in burglaries by 5.2 % in all of North Rhine-Westphalia is particularly remarkable, which reinforces the local phenomenon. While a total decline of 1.3 %was recorded in the theft area, the local authorities still have to react to the increase in bodily harm (+1.7 %) and cybercrime (+7.8 %).
The full report by the Höxter district police authority is viewed online. It remains to be seen how the police will react to the increase in burglaries and which other prevention strategies will be implemented in the coming months.
