Action month in the Höxter district: Mourning and farewell thought new!

From March 9, 2025, the action month with the title "Death is black-and you?", Organized by the palliative network, starts in the Höxter district. This series of events, which is divided into 22 activities, includes, among other things, lectures and readings that aim to illuminate the often tabooed topic of death and grief in a new way. The initiative is supported by a promising marketing concept that shows a laughing young woman in order to take away the topic.

The kick-off event takes place in the St. Michaels Church in Brakel. As a result, numerous events are planned, including an information "How do I plan my funeral?" in the Evangelical Church in Warburg on March 15. In addition, a workshop on the subject of "Writing grief cards - give words" in the St. Nicolai senior citizens' house in Höxter is intended. A reading of the book "Der Death and I - Buddies Forever" will take place in the Schlenke funeral home in Höxter. Some of the planned events require registration, whereby the full program can be viewed on the dean's office's homepage.

mourning work and accompaniment

In the context of palliative care, high -quality grief accompaniment is of enormous importance. In this context, the German Hospice and Palliative Association (DHPV) as well as the German Society for Palliative Medicine (DGP) have established a certificate for mourning support and advice in institutions of the hospice and palliative thesis. The aim of this process is quality assurance of qualifications in order to meet professional standards in mourning.

A common framework concept for the qualification was developed to help full and volunteers to offer qualified accompanying and advisory services for the dying, relatives and mourners. At the same time, this counteracts the social taboo of the topic of grief and strengthened the culture of mourning. The corresponding course concepts can be submitted to the certification body via the email address grief-certification office@palliativmedizin.de.

commitment of the specialist community

A recognition commission (AQT) was formed for the implementation of the certification procedure. This consists of the following members:

  • Dirk Blümke (DHPV)
  • Silana Harder (DGP)
  • Martina Kern (DGP)
  • Daniela Kiefer Fischer (DHPV)
  • Isabel Kleibrink (DHPV)
  • Franziska Röseberg (DGP)

This measures not only improve the quality of the grief accompaniment, but also promote awareness and sensitivity to deal with grief in society. Knowledge and skills that are conveyed in mourning are crucial to support people in their most difficult time and to offer them valuable support.
