Rescue dog squadron in Goch: four -legged friends for population protection!

The DLRG local group Goch e.V. has big plans: On April 23, 2025, the dog handlers Sonja Goertz and Nina Baur proudly present the foundation of a rescue dog squadron. The initiators came into contact with Falk Neutzer, the chairman of the DLRG local group Goch in September 2024. Together they developed the idea of establishing a specialized dog squadron that not only complements water rescue, but also supports local security in population protection. Neutzer and his deputy Sascha Wolf supported this project because there are no strict requirements in disaster protection that prohibit it.

After intensive discussions at the state level and an exchange with neighboring seasons, those responsible are now planning the official presentation of the new rescue dog squadron. The dog handlers: In addition to Goertz and Baur, Sascha van Well, including Goertz and Baur, are already active in training. Your dogs Duncan, Batu, Ken, Leevi and Jona are specially designed for the search for people in a wide variety of terrain. The training takes place twice a week at different locations in the district of Kleve.

training and expansion plans

The training of the rescue dog teams is comprehensively created and takes about two to three years. The focus is on the search for space and the mantrails, a form of looking for people in which the dog follows a specific track. In the future, those responsible want to expand the training of skills in searching for the bank and water location in order to be able to react even better to different operational scenarios.

The DLRG is looking for interested people in this context, both with and without a dog who want to support the dog squadron. If you are interested, you can contact the DLRG directly to take part in a trial training.
