New school kiosk opened in Straelen: A meeting point for students!

On February 6, 2025, the new school kiosk of the municipal secondary school in Straelen was ceremoniously handed over. In the presence of Mayor Bernd Kuse and head of department Christian Hinkelmann, as well as headmaster Patrick Richter and school social worker Cornelia Schroers, the project was presented, which aims to promote the care of the student body and the sense of community at the school. The initiative for the kiosk came from the students who were actively involved in the planning and equipment.

The idea behind the kiosk is clear: it should make everyday school life easier and at the same time contribute to improving the quality of life of the students. The kiosk is operated by a regular group of ten students from years 7 to 10, who, together with teachers, selected the range and equipment. "We don't want to compete with the local merchant team," emphasized the headmaster, which shows that the Straelen secondary school is aiming for a harmonious interaction with the community.

Financial support and cooperation

The City Council of Straelen has decided 15,000 euros for the purchase of the kiosk inventory. In addition, volunteers from the “Service” second-hand shop provided financial support to ensure the implementation of the project. The entire concept was presented in various school bodies, the school authority and the educational committee. The cooperation between teachers and students ensured that the needs of the student body were adequately taken into account.

The pupils can visit the kiosk itself from Monday to Friday in the first break. A "fresh offer" is provided once a week, which also includes healthy options into the range. This conscious selection of products not only promotes consumption, but also awareness of healthy eating among young people.

community and commitment

The festivities were also present for the festivities, the head of the district government's head, which emphasized the importance of the project. The handover of the kiosk is not only a step towards a better supply structure at the secondary school, but also an example of the special commitment of the students, which is repeatedly awarded in Straelen. Such projects strengthen the sense of community and show how important the cooperation between school, students and the community is.

Overall, the new school kiosk is an important step for school culture and testifies to a successful cooperation that shows how student participation and volunteering can cause positive changes. For the students, the kiosk will be a place where they can not only eat and drink, but also experience community.
