Women's power in the CDU: New network strengthens women in politics
On January 20, 2025, a significant founding meeting of Women@CDU took place in the old smithy in Weeze, which was organized by the women Union in the Kleve district. This network, which was launched in 2023 on the initiative of CDU general secretary Christina Stumpp in the Konrad-Adenauer-Haus in Berlin, aims to strengthen and encourage women in local politics to take leaders. Almost 50 CDU member women took part in the founding event, including important political guests such as Silke Gorißen, Dr. Günther Bergmann and Stephan Rouenhoff.
The event for the foundation was not least the upcoming Bundestag and local elections 2025. Nicola Roth, director of the women Union in the district of Kleve, emphasized the importance of more women in political offices. During the event, a platform was created to discuss challenges and opportunities for women in politics.

Women@CDU has set itself the goal of motivating women, getting involved locally and realizing their strengths in management positions. According to Christina Stumpp, who has been a deputy CDU general secretary for a year and a half, a good mix of politics is essential. It demands a stronger presence of women in management positions, which is of high priority for the CDU. Stumpp sees women as crucial for the practical proximity of local politics and their topic.
The network is offered digitally and also includes monthly online events. The first live event took place on October 18, 2023 and dealt with the topic of business. Next year the focus is on social issues. The response to the founding event was consistently positive. Apart from discussions, concrete ideas for the implementation of the goals of the network were also developed.
political framework conditions
The proportion of women in the German Bundestag has been stagnating in about a third for over 20 years, as different studies show. This situation illustrates the need for initiatives such as Women@CDU to promote equality in political representation. In recent years, various legal initiatives and parity laws, such as in Brandenburg and Thuringia, have been launched that aim to increase the proportion of women in politics.
Overall, Women@CDU offers a valuable platform for women to network and support each other in local politics. Planned, regular meetings should help increase the visibility of women in politics and to build a strong community that is committed to equality.
