Nurses in Remscheid: Unique growth despite decline in NRW!
In North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), a worrying trend in the nursing industry has become noticeable: in 2023 the number of nurses dropped by about 0.6 percent. This has been the first decline for 25 years and raises questions about future care. While the number of nurses is disappearing nationwide, however, the situation in Remscheid is very different.
In Remscheid, a significant increase in nursing staff is recorded from 1859 at the end of 2021 to 2506 at the end of 2023. This means an impressive increase of 34.8 percent. Especially in the outpatient area, this trend shows where the number of employees has increased from 686 to 1283, which corresponds to an increase of around 87 percent, such as rga.de
stable number of outpatient care services
Despite the significant increase in the number of nurses, the number of outpatient care services in Remscheid remains constant at 30. The situation has also improved slightly in the inpatient facilities, with an increase in nursing staff from 1173 to 1223, which corresponds to an increase of around 4.3 percent. These stable conditions have certainly contributed to the fact that the part -time quota in Remscheid is 45.6 percent below the nationwide average of over 54 percent.
The development of those in need of care is also remarkable. In 2023, 2.3 percent more people in need of care were looked after by outpatient care services in NRW than two years earlier. Nursing homes recorded an increase in those in need of care by 1.3 percent, which indicates increasing demand in both areas, as rga.de emphasized.
Current vacancies in care
Other institutions, such as the CMS nursing home Porz in Cologne and the senior center AGO Herkenrath, also offer various positions, many of them with welcome premiums of up to 4000 euros. These measures should help to counter the demographic challenges in the nursing industry, especially in Remscheid and to meet the need for qualified staff.
The current situation in Remscheid could be seen as a positive example for other municipalities in NRW who have to deal with a decline in nursing staff. It remains to be seen whether this positive development is also manifested in other parts of the country and how the industry reacts to the growing challenges.
