Climate-friendly warmth: NRW promotes geothermal energy with a mega package!

North Rhine-Westphalia takes another step in climate policy and actively promotes the use of geothermal energy to generate climate-friendly warmth. According to Land.nrw , Geothermie is available as an inexhaustible and climate-neutral energy source that can be used around the clock. Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Mona Neubaur presented a new funding package in Krefeld on April 2, 2025, which significantly expanded support for geothermal projects.

As part of this initiative, the country enables the land to secure the finding risk of production bores. This includes a takeover of up to 60% of the costs, should not be discovered enough hot water resources. Grants of up to 60% of the costs are possible for exploration holes, with maximum funding of 8 million euros being provided.

Expansion of the funding offers

The promotion of the "Progres.nrw - Risk Protection Hydrothermal Hydrothermal Geothermal energy" is increased to 40 million euros. New funding applications can be made from April 8, 2025. To make the application easier, a corresponding webinar will be offered on April 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Information and frequent questions about the application are then also updated.

geothermal energy is particularly suitable for single -family houses and quarters up to a depth of 400 meters. Hydrothermal methods are used for medium depth and depth of geothermal energy from 400 to over 1,500 meters. In order to identify potentially water -bearing rocks, seismic measurements are used, while holes are necessary to confirm the presence of deep water.

The risks of groundwater and earth movements are minimal because risky fracking methods are excluded. North Rhine-Westphalia is characterized by excellent possibilities for the use of geothermal energy that can contribute to the heat turnaround.

sideline -close geothermal energy and heat pumps

In addition to the deep geothermal energy, North Rhine-Westphalia also promotes the near-surface geothermal energy in connection with heat pumps. The cost of geothermal probes is 5 euros per bormeter for new buildings and 10 euros per bormeter for existing buildings. Ellaborial collectors cost 3 euros per square meter in the new building and 6 euros per square meter in the portfolio, while fountain bores cost 1 euro per liter and hour of funding.

Funding for these measures is possible up to a maximum of 100,000 euros per building and location, with bores up to 400 meters deep. Important requirements must comply with the LANUV worksheet 39 and can be applied for with the federal funding for efficient buildings.

Cost estimates are required for the application, and a maximum of ten systems must be uploaded using an online form. After a positive examination, a notice of donation is issued. It is important that the measure is only commissioned after this decision.

In addition, Geothermie.de Comprehensive information about the various funding programs for supporting geothermal energy, which play an important role in German energy policy. The expansion of geothermal energy will not only increase the independence of energy imports, but also contribute to the creation of jobs and innovative products.

With its numerous funding initiatives,

thus offers extraordinary opportunities for the use of healthy geothermal energy to support sustainable and climate-friendly energy supply.
