On May 3 and 4, 2025, the city center of Krefeld transforms into a lively open -air market. As part of the “Op Dä Maat” event, both visitors and traders feel attracted to the positive mood. Christoph Borgmann, the chairman of the advertising community, reports that the atmosphere is already perceived as pleasant and inviting. Over 120 dealers and restaurateurs present their diverse, culinary, floristic and cultural offers.
A Highlight of the weekend is the traditionally organized spermbäckermarkt, which is taking place for the 32nd time this year. International ceramic designers present their works for living rooms, balconies and gardens and thus enrich the event with their creative input. The Lower Rhine Ceramic Prize of 1,000 euros will be awarded on May 4th at 2 p.m., which arouses great interest among ceramic artists and lovers.
diverse offers and attractions
The open -air market offers a wide range of highlights. The central topic is the "flowering band", which runs through the city center and ensures a fresh atmosphere with colorful plants and planted wheelbarrows. The focus is on culinary delights on the city market, where Spanish live music accompanies the Iberian delicacies.
Visitors can look forward to a musical entertainment, including through the Dusty Lane Jazz band and Bastian Vogel. In addition, numerous creative workshops are located on the festival site. Here interested parties have the opportunity to design insect houses or jewelry boxes. These workshops will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 6 p.m. in the creative quarters around the Behnisch-Haus.
Sunday open and relaxed atmosphere
Sunday is open to sales, whereby the shops are open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. This gives visitors the opportunity not only to explore the market offers, but also to support local retailers who have special promotions.
Another highlight is the wine festival at the Schwanenbrunnen, which offers a relaxed atmosphere with a DJ set in the evening on Saturday from 12 noon to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 12 noon to 8 p.m. A guarded bicycle car park in Neue Linner Straße 95 is available for bicycle travelers, which is accessible on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
