New DRK team in Krefeld: Volunteers do impressive aid work!

On January 2, 2025, the board of the DRK district association Krefeld was re-elected in the district assembly. The district chairman Diether Thelen will continue to run the business. Ursula Mattke and Christian Kautz were confirmed as deputy district chair. In addition, Christian Preisigke was chosen as the Justitarian and Sven Haake as treasurer (legal board).

The following members were confirmed in the extended board: Georgios Leledakis as the district association doctor and Dr. Ulrich Lenssen and Hans Pöpperl as assessors. Ursula Mattke also takes over the management of social work. As part of the election, representatives from volunteering were also named: Max Heisel (willingness to location), Simon Weber (Hüls), Sandra Ketelaers (Youth Red Cross) and Christian Reuter (Wasserwacht).

An important milestone for the DRK district association was the inauguration of a new logistics center for disaster protection in the Hüls industrial area in 2024. In October 2024, 20 volunteers supported a special location at Krefelder Cinemaxx, while 36 volunteers were responsible for the care of evacuated residents in a bomb defense. The renovation work in the district office has been completed and the connection to the district heating network has been successfully implemented.

So far, volunteers have already worked 26,000 hours of service in 2024, with operations at the fun fair, the flax market and the Rosenmontagszug. The water guard also worked in the Bavarian flood area and provided medical forces during the European Football Championship. The Youth Red Cross achieved Dr. Zipp competition very good results.

In the area of ​​the house emergency call, the DRK district association recorded a customer increase of 8 % and its switch to digital devices is well received. For 2025, the foundation of a civil protection school is planned to train young people without a driver's license. Treasurer Sven Haake presented the 2025 budget, which includes around 4.3 million income and expenses. This was unanimously approved.

The commitment to disaster protection is organized by numerous volunteers of the DRK. This includes active operational formations such as uses, water rescue features and rapid use groups (SEG).
