election mode and conditions

The 21st German Bundestag is elected in the Bundestag election, which takes place on February 23, 2025. The choice is made by general, immediate, free, same and secret voices. All persons who are at least 18 years old on election day are entitled to vote and have German citizenship and have been living in Germany for at least three months.

eligible voters have two votes: the first vote for a direct candidate and the second vote for a party list that decides on the proportional distribution of the mandates. The number of deputies in the Bundestag limited a voting right reform from 2023 to 630. Overhang and compensation mandates are eliminated.

In the context of this important choice, the state association of the values union in North Rhine-Westphalia includes over 300 members, which makes it the largest in Germany. Among the direct candidates are Sylvia Pantel for Düsseldorf-Süd and Frank Köhler for Krefeld.
