Process for attempted manslaughter: man stands in cocktail bar!
A 38-year-old Zweibrücker has been in front of the jury duplicate in Zweibrücken since Monday, March 17, 2025. The process revolves around an incident that occurred on September 15, 2024 at 4 a.m. in front of the Reyna cocktail bar in Maxstrasse. The accused is accused of wanting to hit another man in the face as part of a dispute, but this failed. As a result, there was a scramble in which the accused was injured.
The main allegation is the attempted manslaughter of a 28-year-old who had intervened to de-escalation the conflict. The accused stabbed him with a folding knife into the left side of the breast, which led to a four centimeter wide and ten centimeter long stab wound. Fortunately, the injuries were not life -threatening. Prosecutor Rouven Balzer said that the victim's physical constitution could be crucial for the outcome.
process course and defense strategy
The accused did not comment on the indictment in the first day of the trial. Defense attorney Daniel Schmitz suggested a right-hand conversation in which topics such as a criminal resignation and a perpetrator-victim compensation were discussed. The defense lawyer Anna Maria Kalmes represented the position of the accused: he resisted in self -defense because he was attacked by two men.
The alleged victim, however, described that he wanted to settle the dispute after his cousin was pushed. At that moment he was already stung into his chest by the defendant with a knife. After the incident, he complained about severe pain and had to be brought to the Nardini Hospital in Zweibrücken. He was released five days later, but was on sick leave for more than two months.
legal classification and background
The legal framework for the accusation of attempted manslaughter is crucial. Murder and homicide are capital offenses that affect the deliberate killing of a person. If the success of the killing does not occur, the perpetrator is charged with attempted murder or attempted manslaughter. The latter requires that the accused intentionally wanted to bring about the death of a person, which he apparently did in this case. The punishment for attempted homicide ranges from at least two years to a maximum of eleven years and three months in prison.
The process continues on Tuesday and the jury will have to deal with the different versions of the event. It remains to be seen how the victim's physical constitution in the overall picture of the penetration of the accused will flow into the action.
In a larger context, this case is also underlined by the current figures of the police crime statistics. In 2023, the number of violent crime has increased to the highest level since 2007, with an increase of 8.6 % compared to the previous year. These statistical surveys show that cases such as the present are not isolated, but can be classified in a worrying pattern of violence and crimes. According to the PKS, there were a total of 214,099 cases of violent crime in 2023.
