50 years of green ladies and gentlemen: a volunteer with a heart in Mettmann!
Today, on April 1, 2025, the group of Green Ladies and Lords of Evangelical Health and Elderly Hilfments (EKH) e.V. celebrates a remarkable anniversary. Since its foundation in 1975 by Elfriede Hammel with 14 women, almost 200,000 working hours have been worked in the Mettmann Evangelical Hospital. The commitment of these volunteers extends over half a century and is therefore duly recognized.
Currently 14 volunteers are committed, whose age from 24 to 82 years is sufficient. They offer support and society for patients and guests in short -term care. They are in the needy in many facets - be it through conversations, errands or just through a friendly encounter. Reinhard Fluß has been part of the team since 2008, Helga Wittig and new members such as Elke Grothe-Kühn since 2023, which deals with the emotional needs of the patients.
voluntary help as valuable support
The volunteers of the green ladies and gentlemen are trained lay people who take care of the well -being of patients and residents. Her tasks include activities for which full -time employees often have no time, such as listening, reading aloud or accompanying investigations. They not only support the patients, but also relieve the nursing staff who can find little time for personal conversations in their hectic everyday work.
This type of support is particularly important in today's world. The company is getting older, which increases the need for care steadily. The lack of trained specialist staff in nursing is increasingly increasing, and more and more older people are dependent on help. This often leads to withdrawal and loneliness, which is why volunteers can play an important role in improving the quality of life and the social well -being of those affected.
- emotional stability, empathy and reliability are crucial properties for volunteering.
- The visiting service is borne by Christian charity and mutual trust.
- Volunteers are not allowed to take on physical care, but support with activities such as reading, playing and singing.
- nationwide there are opportunities for further training and regular training for these committed helpers.
At the EKH, basic training is also offered that prepares interested people for the tasks in volunteering. This extends over 20 to 30 hours and includes basic content such as hygiene in care and dealing with those in need of care. After completing training, the volunteers are prepared to work in various areas such as hospitals and geriatric care facilities.
The work of the Green Ladies and Gentlemen is celebrated on April 6th as part of a service and is a sign of appreciation for their tireless commitment over the years. Above all, the arduous interaction that the volunteers maintain with the full -time employees is invaluable for the community and those affected on site.
In summary, it can be said that the green men and gentlemen are not only valuable support for the patients, but also make an essential contribution to improving the quality of life and together. For those interested, there is the possibility to find out more about a search portal and contact a group of green ladies and gentlemen.
