Emergency calls in Langenfeld and Monheim: District control center Mettmann now responsible!
From April 1, 2025, the emergency calls from Langenfeld and Monheim will run at the district control center in Mettmann. This is a significant step in the region's emergency communication, as the two cities give up their common emergency call query and switch to the central control center. The other eight cities in the district of Mettmann, namely Heiligenhaus, Mettmann, Wülfrath, Erkrath, Hilden, Ratingen, Haan and Velbert, have been connected to this control center for a long time. The decision for the changeover was described as organizational, technically, economically and legally without alternative by the Mettmann district.
The district control center was put into operation in 1996 and has since established itself as a central point of contact for emergency calls in the Mettmann district. First, the emergency calls from Heiligenhaus, Mettmann and Wülfrath were edited. More cities have been added over the years, so that a total of ten cities in the district are now connected to this central emergency call.
importance of emergency call 112
The emergency call 112 is the central number for emergencies in which life and life are threatened or significant real assets are endangered. This is not just a local, but a uniform, free emergency number standardized in Europe. With the call at 112, the callers are connected directly to the regionally responsible control center, which then alerted the required emergency services and funds.
The management of the operations is coordinated by a dispatcher from the control center. In order to increase the efficiency of the operations, a special software system is used that supports the dispatcher in disposition. For larger plants, it may also be necessary to request additional forces from neighboring control centers.
The five W questions in an emergency
For a successful emergency report, some important information is required that are requested in the form of five W questions:
- What happened? (laying description)
- where did it happen? (place, street, house number, possibly floor)
- How many injuries are there? (exact number of injuries)
- Who reports the emergency call? (name and possibly telephone number)
- Waiting for questions from the control center.
emergency calls can not only be discontinued by landline and mobile phones, but also by locked cell phones or prepaid phones without credit. Telephone boards, fire brigade handicraft detectors, taxis or public transport are also possible.
