Mettmann starts again at the city cycling - carefully careful!
in Mettmann on June 1, 2025, the nationwide city cycling project starts again. This is already the seventh participation of the city in this large -scale campaign, which lasts for three weeks until June 21. Last year, Mettmann was able to cover impressive 192,945 kilometers in 37 teams with 1,098 active cyclists and secure first place in the Mettmann district. As the fourth -lying city in the circle, the ambitious goal this year is to defend the first place among the ten districts belonging to the district, as the city administration on its website
The registration portal for interested parties is already activated. Participants have the opportunity to reactivate their old account or to register again. It is important to note that the teams from the previous year have to be founded again. The organizational leadership is responsible for Nathalie Villière and Mayor Sandra Pietschmann, who focus on a broad team of participants. In particular, children, adolescents and adults should be encouraged to take part in the campaign. Participation in the city bike not only pursues the goal of sporting activities, but also focuses on the topics of bicycle traffic, climate protection and quality of life. Through the city's commitment, citizens should be sensitized to the advantages of cycling in order to make a contribution to climate protection. The project emphasizes the need for a better cycling infrastructure to motivate more people to switch from the car to the bike. That is why the campaign is particularly interesting for local politicians who can actively improve the framework conditions for cyclists in their municipality, such as Stadtradeln.de
For additional exciting experiences during the city bike, the ADFC and RV Edelweiß ensure that different bike tours are planning in the area. From the beginning of May, further information will be available on the urban homepage that explain registration options and planned tours in detail. In addition to general cycling promotion, the different types of electric bicycles are also discussed. There are three main categories: pedelecs, fast pedelecs (S-Pedelecs) and e-bikes. Pedelecs support cyclists up to 25 km/h and switch off at higher speeds. In contrast, S-Pedelecs support the drivers of up to 45 km/h, but are considered to be small motorcycle and are subject to corresponding regulations such as helmet obligation and a required driver's license. E-bikes, on the other hand, are electrical mofas that support up to 25 km/h without having to go into the pedals. While e-bikes are currently not playing the biggest role on the market, the term is often used incorrectly for pedelecs, which brings legal differences, as the ADFC explains in a further contribution ( mettmanner.adfc.de ).
