sustainability in the hotel industry
The increasing sensitivity to sustainable practices within the hospitality industry is clear. According to Booking.com's "Sustainable Travel Report 2022", 71 % of travelers intend to travel more environmentally conscious in the coming year - an increase of 10 % compared to the previous year. This trend shows that hotels have to find innovative solutions to meet both the requirements of the guests and the environmental goals.
Sustainability labels such as Earth Check or Green Key Check hotels according to specific criteria that evaluate their ecological tolerance. In this context, the timber construction, as it comes into play in Hoho Vienna, is considered particularly advantageous. The 84 meter high building is made of 75 % of wood and has received certification for sustainability. This construction makes it possible to achieve clear reductions in CO₂ emissions and to minimize the environmental impact.
The wood hybrid building and its advantages
The hybrid construction, a mixture of wood and concrete, not only offers a high load -bearing capacity, but also advantages in terms of sustainability. The inner development core of Hoho Vienna, for example, is made of solid reinforced concrete, which guarantees additional stability. In Austria, the strict building code enables the use of wood, which grows in large quantities and thus represents a sustainable resource.
According to estimates, the entire Hoho Vienna wood resources could grow back in just 1 hour and 17 minutes, which underlines the efficiency of wood construction. It is also important that the timber construction saves approx. 2,800 tons of CO₂ equivalent compared to conventional reinforced concrete. This corresponds to about 20 million car kilometers.
The Dormero Group is pursuing an ambitious and necessary goal of sustainable development with the new hotel. The growing interest in environmentally friendly hotels and the positive effects of wood construction on the emissions show that the future of the hotel industry is in this direction.
With the founding of the hotel in Mönchengladbach, the Dormero Group not only sets an important step for its own corporate strategy, but also makes a significant contribution to sustainable hotel construction.
