NRW: Start new registration offices against discrimination on March 17th!
The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia announced on March 17, 2025 the opening of four new registration points for racist incidents and queer hostility. This initiative is part of a comprehensive approach to combat discrimination and sets an important accent against anti -Muslim racism and anti -Ziganism. More than 1.5 million euros were made available for the construction of the registration offices, although 180,000 euros are planned for the operation in 2025, reports n-tv .
The reporting points that are set up for the first time in North Rhine-Westphalia should represent a central point of contact for affected people in order to report and make visible experiences of discrimination. The aim is to illuminate the dark field of discrimination, since many incidents are often not reported. The reporting points themselves do not check incidents for their criminal liability and have no persecution or sanctioning order; Affected persons are asked to contact the police for criminal complaints.
reporting points and their carriers
The topics dealt with in the new registration offices are:
- queer hostility
- antimuslim racism
- Antigziganism
- anti-black, anti-Asian and other forms of racism
The carriers of the registration points were selected by a nationwide order of interests. Among other things, the registration office for queer hostility is operated by Queere Network NRW e.V. and other partners. The registration office for anti -Muslim racism is headed by Interkultur e.V. and Coach e.V., while the registration office for anti -Ziganism is supported by Planb Ruhr e.V. The structure of further reporting points will complement the existing offer of 42 advice centers for persons affected by racist discrimination, such as Land.NRW
Minister Josefine Paul emphasizes the importance of these reporting points, since they should play an important role in the registration and analysis of discrimination incidents. A coordinated database system for recording the reported cases is also being planned. This will not only increase the visibility of discrimination cases, but also serve as the basis for future research and prevention measures.
growing awareness of discrimination
The need for such reporting points is underlined by the increasing numbers of discrimination cases. In the years 2021 to 2023, over 20,600 cases of discrimination against the federal anti -discrimination agency were reported, whereby racist and anti -Semitic discrimination showed the most common reports, as can be seen from a report, the Antidiskriminationtelleit.de . It is estimated that between 16 and 30 percent of the population report on discrimination.
The new initiative in North Rhine-Westphalia is therefore not only a confession to combat discrimination, but also a strategic step to raise social awareness and to support those affected. In a country in which the number of unreported cases of discrimination is high, it will be crucial how successfully these reporting points work and what interactions you can develop with the existing legal situation.
