Snow chaos in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis: 35 accidents and injuries!

On the streets of the Rheinisch-Bergische Kreis, there have been a worrying accumulation of traffic accidents in the last few days due to winter weather conditions. In the period from Wednesday evening, 7 p.m. to Thursday, 4 p.m., the police registered a total of 35 accidents in the region, whereby the majority of these incidents led to property damage. However, two people were slightly injured. In all cases, the police were consulted in order to clarify the causes and processes. This reports rga.de.

There were special incidents under the accidents. In Wermelskirchen there was a frontal collision on Remscheider Straße (L 409) between a 40-year-old driver from Remscheid and a 52-year-old truck driver from Erftstadt. The weather -related road conditions led to property damage of around 40,000 euros and the driver suffered minor injuries. Two trucks collided in Overath Heiligenhaus when the trailer of a vehicle skidded. The 42-year-old truck driver from the Czech Republic was slightly injured, which resulted in another property damage of around 14,000 euros.

The distribution of accidents

The accidents were divided into various cities and municipalities of the Rheinisch-Bergische Kreis:

  • Wermelskirchen: 9 accidents
  • overath: 6 accidents
  • Bergisch Gladbach: 6 accidents
  • Burscheid: 4 accidents
  • Leichlingen: 3 accidents
  • Rösrath: 3 accidents
  • Kürten: 2 accidents
  • Odenthal: 2 accidents

During the same period of time, seven injuries, including two seriously injured people, were recorded in the Oberberg district. Here, the causes of accidents are particularly important in winter conditions. The police appeal to the drivers to drive carefully, to maintain the distance and, if necessary, to do without driving.

Current weather and its effects

The weather conditions have also influenced other areas of the region. Since Thursday morning, 100 trucks have been stuck on the feeder B256 between Brüchermühle and Bergneustadt due to snow. These problems have been tightened by new snowfall and uncomfortable streets. The motorway police advise you to bypass these areas in a large scale. In addition, there were massive traffic jams on the A4 and A1 motorways, including through several rear -end collisions and a transverse vehicle. The RVK and WUPSI reported massive failures in bus traffic, which was resumed in the afternoon.

Weather experts warn of further winter conditions. The temperatures should drop up to minus 6 degrees at night, and icy road conditions are also assumed on Friday morning. A new snow area is moving up on Friday afternoon and could bring up to 10 cm of snow, which in particular could affect rush hour traffic in the afternoon. Information on traffic safety in winter conditions show that road conditions during this season are decisive in both frequency and the severity of accidents, with smoothness being an important factor. A report of the Environmental Federal Office underlines that in future weather conditions the road participants have to pay particular attention to the weather-related changes in traffic.
