Weiberfastnacht in Oberbergische: Kreishaussturm ensures cheering!
In the Oberbergische Kreis, the Weiberfastnacht is traditionally celebrated with a happy and colorful hustle and bustle. On February 28, 2025, the employees of the district administration in the district house took over the reign. With the motto "AI does everything digital - but Hätz break mer för carnival!" a sign was set that focused on both the digital future and the liveliness of the carnival. Over 400 carnival jecks welcomed the day with a colorful mood in the foyer of the district house at 10:30 a.m.
The start of the program at 11:11 a.m. was initiated by a loud entry into the district administrator Jochen Hagn. The so -called "Jecken Wiever" kidnapped the district administrator and district director Klaus Grootens into the "power center", the former district canteen. Despite all the efforts, District Administrator was defeated by the storm on the district house and the employees even captured the ties of administrative management. Their victory was celebrated with a dance of the agger pearls.
The stormy competition
A highlight of the day was the symbolic publication of the district key. This was previously attached under the conference table. After an exciting competition in which the "disempowered" in Bierpong and a quiz game "Who would rather ..." had to compete, district administrator and district director lost. Their punishment was to donate 100 liters of water and beer for the celebrants, which also fueled the exuberant mood.
The event, which marked the last district house storm for District Administrator Jochen Hagn, ended with a lively women's fatty night in the former district canteen. Hagn and Grootens thanked the Jecken Wievern and the many helpers who contributed to the success of the day.
carnival customs in the Oberberg district
The women's carnival only forms part of the carnival events in the Oberberg district. Cities like Wipperfürth, Gummersbach and Engelskirchen were also active and celebrated with similar town hall storms. In Wipperfürth, for example, Mayor Anne Loth handed over the key to a charming handling, while the Möhnen in Engelskirchen took over without resistance.
In Gummersbach, the key handover for Mayor Frank Helmenstein, who retired after 21 years, took place under the motto "Franky Potter and the prisoner of Gummersbach". Mayor Larissa Weber from Waldbröl took challenges to hand over the key, while in Wiehl under the motto "Wiehl conjured up" came to a magical festival.
This traditional custom captivates many people every year and shows the variety of carnival in different cities, where women take on a central role. The carnival is not only a festival of joy and exuberance, but also an important part of regional culture.
