Future of the city library Wiehl: Idea workshop for all citizens!

The Wiehl city library is in an exciting phase of the transformation. Under the direction of five committed employees, numerous events and excursions are organized for children. In order to strengthen its relevance in the digital era, the library also offers digital offers about the "on -loan". These developments are part of a comprehensive concept of future that is tailored to the needs of the parishioners. According to Oberberg-aktuell.de , this concept was initiated by the state with a funding of 18,500 euros.

The school and education committee commissioned the concept and was presented by Andreas Mittrowann from the specialist office "Aufnedenken". Citizens were included in a community workshop to collect active opinions on the future development of the library. The aim is to establish the city library as a modern “third place” for education and encounter.

focus on inclusion and diversity

A decisive aspect of the concept is the focus on including offers, which should be particularly accessible to users aged 65 and over. The fields of action include media and reading skills, the creation of a place of wellbeing as well as cooperations and networking with various local facilities. By 2030, numerous measures are planned that are tailored to budget and workload.

for 2023, the expansion of the event offers for different age groups and the planned foundation of a support association to support special projects are determined. The adaptation of the media offer provides for an increase in the media budget of 30,000 euros annually to integrate more children's books and offer fewer non -fiction books.

The current media equipment of the library comprises 38,000 physical and 22,000 digital media as well as 3,000 films and series that are offered via "Filmfriend". An increase in the use of digital offers by 41% Since 2017, the growing demand has been evident. In addition, the number of active ID users rose from 1,631 in 2017 to 1,989 in 2024, with the highest user rates in the age groups from 6 to 15 years.

Future workshop and participation

In order to actively shape the further development of the city library, a future workshop will take place on September 25, 2024 in the cafeteria of the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Gymnasium. Interested parties are invited to take part in the design of a new library concept from 5:30 p.m. Topics such as the design of the rooms and the desired digital offers are on the agenda. Registrations are possible until September 13, 2024. Further ideas can be sent by email or telephone to give the residents a voice in the development process. Further information can be found on wiehl-portal.de

Apart from these measures, the library is planning to introduce RFID technology for self-service as well as a new room concept that is intended to improve the quality of stay and learning places. These steps are part of the multi -stage planning, which was unanimously supported by the committee. Connected by funding and own funds, these measures of the library should help to act as a central educational institution in the community.
